goodreadsHilary had gotten used to dating the commitment-phobic Marc, thirteen years her senior. They had a great relationship—why rush into things? She saw no need to pressure him for marriage, believing that when the time was right, he would propose. But after they had been together for four years, their friends decided to take matters into their own hands, pushing Marc to propose and making Hilary realize how much she really did want to marry the man that she loved. Unfortunately, Marc still wasn’t ready—and their friends’ meddling in the form of a faux engagement party led to a disastrous New Year’s Eve that brought their relationship to an inevitable turning point.
In this relatable, lighthearted, and playful memoir, Hilary reminisces about her life before Marc—from the insecure and awkward teenage years she spent in a back brace and dealing with the loss of her father, to her early relationships and, finally, to the day she met Marc and realized that she really wanted to see him again. Through their first date—even though Hilary was technically seeing someone else at the time—and the ease of their early time together until Marc first decided that they were moving too quickly, up until that fateful New Year’s Eve, Hilary shares the details of their relationship and how Marc’s inability to commit led her to find an inner strength and confidence she didn’t know she possessed.

Asleep on the hay

The cattle are lowing

Day 39 Blue Poinsettia

Displaying CAM00399.jpg

how cool is this?  went to the grocery store for mom and found this
beauty,  I have never seen a blue poinsettia so it came home with me.

and now, here is one of my favorite stories about Chirstmas

Legend of the Poinsettia

SOME TIME AGO, I heard a lovely Christmas story about Maria, a young girl who lived on a poor family farm in a small village in Mexico. It was a custom in the village to glorify the Christmas season with special events to celebrate the birth of the Christ Child, Jesus. Everyone took part in the preparations by festively decorating the village church and the piazza in front of it. Even the children helped by making gifts to give to the Baby Jesus on Christmas Eve.
Maria wanted to make a very special gift. She had helped her mother before with the loom, so she tried, on her own, to weave a colorful blanket. But Maria was too inexperienced and the yarns became an entangled mess. Maria was heartbroken. She wanted so much to be able to march in procession with the other village children, but she had no gift to give to the Christ Child.
Finally it was Christmas Eve! The villagers gathered in the piazza. Some whispered that they thought they could hear angels singing tonight. Everyone was ready. Holding lit candles, all the villagers began to process down the aisle amid joyous music and singing.
All except for Maria, who hid in the shadows, watching with tears in her eyes as the procession to the church started.
"I don’t have a gift for the Baby Jesus," she sniffled softly. "I tried and tried to make something beautiful, but instead I ruined it."
Suddenly, Maria heard a voice. She looked up and saw only a bright star in the sky; it seemed to hover and shine over the village church. Was it this star that spoke to her?
"Maria," she heard the voice again, "The baby Jesus will love whatever you give because it comes from your heart. Love is what makes any gift special."
With that, Maria stepped out from the shadows. Nearby she noticed some tall green weeds. She rushed over and quickly filled her arms with the weeds, covering them with her manto. Then she ran swiftly to the church.
By the time she arrived, the candles were ablaze and the children were singing as they walked down the aisle carrying their gifts to the Christ Child.
Padre Francesco placed the figure of the baby Jesus in the manger, with the children’s gifts all around it.
Suddenly, Maria was scared when she saw all those people dressed in such beautiful clothes, and she was dressed so poorly. She tried to slip behind one of the big pillars, but she was too slow. Padre Francesco saw her.
"Maria, Maria," he called out. "Hurry girl, come, bring up your gift!"
Maria was terrified. She wondered, "Do I run away? Do I go forward?"
The Padre saw her apprehension and coaxed her more gently, "Maria, come up here and see the Baby Jesus. There is space left for one more gift."
Before she could think, Maria found herself walking down the main aisle of the church.
"What is Maria carrying under her manto?" the villagers whispered. "Where’s her gift?"
Padre Francesco stepped down from the altar and walked with Maria to the Christmas crèche. Maria bowed her head and said a prayer then opened her manto and let the weeds tumble out.
Voices gasped, "Look! Look at those glorious flowers!"
Startled, Maria opened her eyes. She was stunned. For each weed was now topped with a flaming, bright, red star.
And outside, too, every weed now bore a bright red star.
Maria’s love had created a miracle.

wordless Wednesday

look how cute and innocent
thanks to one of my friends
for making this for me

The Wednesday Hodgepodge - A necessary luxury

'Twas two weeks before Christmas when all through the Internet, people who should be shopping, baking, wrapping, and cleaning were nestled all snug in the Hodgepodge. So glad you're here! Everyone is welcome to play along...answer the questions on your own blog, then add your link at the end of my post.

Here are my answers-

1. Are you doing anything special to mark this season of Advent? If so, please share.  No

2. Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen...and of course you recall, that most famous reindeer of all...so which reindeer name best describes you this week?
OLIVE :) as in all of the other reindeer :) all kidding aside
I am going to go with Blitzen German meaning lightning and Donner in German Meaning
quick so make it lightning quick for me.  I hate stuff that should take you a short time
to do that takes you all day

3. What's worse-too quiet or too loud?  Which have you had more of lately?
well too loud for me, I am not much into all the big hoplahs and such,
however my neighbors love to BLAST their stereos all night long, that IRRITATES me
recently it has been too quiet.

4. This question comes to you from Zoanna over at A Penchant for Pens-thanks Zo!

When you are administratively gifted, how often do you find yourself not trusting less gifted people to do what they've committed to do?  If you are not so gifted that way, but are reliable, how do you feel when the stronger person (in that area) goes ahead and covers it before giving you a chance to come through?
Well  I will give them the benefit of doubt before I assume they can't ..then if on a time
frame I would ask them if they would like my help, in a nice way.
On the reliability if somebody does the work, then great I would still find out from him/her
if they are doing ok, and if they need anything to ask.

5. What is your most dreaded task relating to the holidays? Your most looked forward to holiday task?
SHOPPING, I always do it the week of *just a tradition^  Looking forward
to getting Christmas cards *SNAIL MAIL* ecards are good but still good ole
fashioned hand written cards are nice...and BTW I have not gotten one card yet :(:(

6. Facebook has released it's list of the 'most talked about topics' for 2013. Pope Francis took the number one spot. Does that surprise you? He was followed by election, royal baby, typhoon, and Harlem Shake. Your thoughts? What was your most talked about topic in 2013? (Facebook, around the kitchen table, or wherever it is you talk)
state of the union, always trying to figure what was going on and is going on.  Health of my
parents were most of the talk menu for 2013 and various other family members.
But the biggest one...was the birth of my great nephew..some good news :)

7. What's something you view as a necessity that others might view as a luxury?
I am guessing living in a nice warm home, I have a nice comfy bed, food while there are homeless people living in a box.  My electronic gadgets have not became a necessity yet

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Christmas is just around the corner, don't forget that stranger you may meet may turn to be your guardian
angel.   We always adopt a needy family for Christmas feed them and make sure their Children have a nice
Christmas.

Day 36 Christmas Shoes

Another Surprise for me by one of my Graphic friends isn't this awesome? This reminded me of the song Christmas Shoes, I know we have all heard it and it brings tears to my eyes everytime.

In case you have never heard it you can see it here
This is what Christmas is all about, this little boy wanted the very best for his mom under the conditions.  The kind man what a joy that must have been to that little boy that a stranger gave the cashier the money so that his Mom could look beautiful so if she meets Jesus tonight.

Luke 6:38 ESV / 12 helpful votes

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

And since Jesus is the reason for the Season, this is today's devotional

JESUS

She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. - Luke 2:7
Sometimes a name is just a name, and sometimes a name captures someone perfectly. The ancients inclined to choose names carefully, so as to make a lifelong statement about a person's identity. "Jesus" is a name so familiar to us, that we easily forget that it was a name with an extraordinary significance. The name an angel announced should be given to Mary and Joseph's new child. And what a name! "Jesus" means "the Lord saves."
He does indeed.
Call him Jesus, the angel said, "because he will save people from their sins." None of us can save ourselves anymore than a person sinking in a rowboat can save himself by pulling up on the side of the boat. We need a savior, and not just a theoretical savior, but one who really has the power of God to separate us from the tyranny and the guilt of sin.
Now for good reason we associate the saving work of Jesus with his sacrificial death on the cross. But there would not have been a saving sacrifice if there had not been an incarnation. Bethlehem was the start of the mission. We don't need to wait until Good Friday and Easter to celebrate the savior. The saving started at the birth of Jesus.
Mary and Joseph could not have understood all this, of course. They were obedient and named the newborn Jesus, "the Lord saves," but how and when that would be was a mystery to them. Not so for us. This side of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus we know the extent of the saving love of God.
Prayer for today: Lord, make me more aware today of my sins, and help me know that they shrink before the powerful person of Jesus.

Day 35 winter wonderland

This is looking out my house to the south
4" of snow ontop of 1 1/2" of sleet
it is 28 with windchill of 7 BURR

Pic #2 is looking north toward the church
what you are seeing in the distance is a whole
flock of birds playing in the slush
you can see there hasn't been much
movement on the road

Pic #3 is the amazing sunset almost
too cold by then to even go outside
but was too pretty to miss.
the tracks that you see are only where
I have been taking the dogs out to do
their business

Hope you are safe if you are having
treacherous weather.  They said 16 states
were effected by this storm.

Here, they are telling us not to even go
outside unless it is a necessity.
The cold temps and windchill are brutal
and not warming up until the middle of
next week...Spose to be 3* in the am Sat
