365 days of pictures day 65 (Bougainvillea)

This beautiful bloom caught my eye (it is a bougainvillea)
They are not native to OK, (they have to go inside in the winter)  however when I lived in South TX they are native there, and little did I know this beautiful flowering bush is covered with thorns.  I found out the hard way.

Bougainvillea 2] is a genus of flowering plants
native to South America from Brazil west to Peru and south to southern Argentina  In 1768 when Admiral Louis de Bougainvillea began his long journey to the Pacific Ocean and discovered the vine that now bears his name, it was a botanical highlight of the voyage.

They have a small smell but the hummingbirds love them.

Hope all of you are staying cool if you are in the "2011 heatwave"  we have been breaking records since the 30's here...

Blessings
Rainbow

  1. It has three leaves of color one for the father and his son and the holy spirit how cool is that. That is what I saw the red the shed blood of his son for us and all mankind. Thank you for sharing this beautiful flower and the history on it.
    Blessings
